Our Programs - 5 Core Areas
Character & Leadership | Education & Career | Health & Life Skills |
The Arts | Sports, Fitness & Recreation
Known as "The Positive Place for Kids," the Clubs provide guidance-oriented character development programs for children 5-18 years old, conducted by a full-time professional staff. The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville nurtures young people's self-esteem by instilling in them a sense of belonging, usefulness, influence and competence. Our Clubs do this daily by providing young people with one-on-one relationships with caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate, well-rounded programming.
Core programs engage young people in activities with adults, peers, and family members that enable them to develop self-esteem and to reach their full potential.
Character & Leadership
Club members have the opportunity to take on leadership roles through programs known as Group Clubs. Our Group Clubs take responsibility for running the snack bar and lounge, managing the locker rooms and assisting Club staff in welcoming visitors and new members. A special bond is created between the staff and Group Club members, and becoming a member of a Group Club is considered a great honor and achievement.
Education & Career
Educational programming is a critical component of our success. The first thing we ask of members when they arrive is to do their homework. Staff and volunteers are on-hand to provide assistance, and help guide our young people toward educational success. In addition to homework assistance, the Club provides programming and guidance stressing the value of education. Whether it is financial literacy, career fairs or simply talking with volunteers, Club members have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of careers and are provided the tools to succeed at school.

Health & Life Skills
Childhood obesity is a major epidemic in our country, and our community is not immune. Teaching young people the value of making healthy choices for life-long wellness is a regular part of our programming. The SMART Moves Program, one of our signature programs, not only provides young people with information that assists in choosing healthy food, but also provides tools for overall healthy living. This program also addresses the dangers and hazards of alcohol and drug use, and empowers young people to avoid peer pressure.
The Arts
Exposing young people to the arts was once as integral a part of a child's education as math, science and reading. Unfortunately in today's society, arts programming is first on the chopping block when schools are faced with budget cuts. The Boys & Girls Club of Evansville is helping to fill this gap by exposing members to a variety of artistic expression. One of the Club's most popular programs, the Drum Club, introduces young people to world culture and geography through music. Other arts programming includes ceramics, crafts and digital photography.
Sports, Fitness & Recreation
There is no doubt that Boys & Girls Clubs across the country were once solely known and regarded for their sports programs. Today, sports, fitness & recreation are still an integral part of our daily programming, offering thousands of kids the opportunity to play team/league sports at no additional cost. Whether it is basketball, flag football, soccer, baseball, field hockey or volleyball, the kids at the Club have the opportunity to learn valuable skills and get the necessary exercise needed to live a healthy life.
