Our Clubs
Serving over 2,400 young people at four sites!
Part of what makes a Boys & Girls Club unique is a dedicated facility specifically for the specific and sole purpose of serving young people. In Evansville, we are fortunate to currently have four clubs:
* American General Financial Services Boys & Girls Club of Evansville - 700 Bellemeade Avenue
* Fulton Square Unit - 1328 Dresden (a collaboration with the Evansville Housing Authority)
* Howard Roosa School Extension
* Cedar Hall School Extension
Each club has its own unique feel and equally unique opportunities. The AGFS Club currently serves ages 6-17; the Fulton Square Unit serves ages 5-14 (5 year olds must be enrolled in kindergarten); and the Howard Roosa and Cedar Hall Extensions serve specific age groups based on the needs of each school.
The American General Financial Services Boys & Girls Club of Evansville
Ground was broken on July 8, 2008, and the new 33,000 square foot facility rapidly began to take shape. This project came into being as a result of Berry Plastic's offer to purchase the property of our Main Unit to make way for Berry's expansion.
The site of the Main Unit once was surrounded by homes and families. Today, the Main Unit is surrounded by the Lloyd Expressway, Berry Plastics and Deaconess Hospital. The number of children living within a one-mile radius has been on the decline for years. With approximately 95% of current members relying on rides to get to the Main Unit (instead of being able to walk), Club officials recognized the opportunity to relocate the Club's flagship facility and get back into a neighborhood with a high concentration of kids and families.
Working with the City of Evansville, the Club found a new home at 700 Bellemeade Avenue (the former site of the Carver Ridley Rollerdrome). With over 4,300 children, age 0-17, living within a one-mile radius AND with over 60% of current Main Unit members already living in the neighborhood, the Club came to an agreement with the City to build a new facility at Bellemeade Park.
